Radon:
Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas found in many homes throughout the United States. You cannot see, smell or taste radon which makes it even more dangerous. There are no immediate symptoms that will alert you to the presence of radon and it typically takes years of exposure before any problems surface. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) estimates that as many as 20,000 lung cancer deaths are caused each year by radon which is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Southeast Iowa residents are more susceptible to Radon in our homes due to our geography and testing is the only way to know your home’s radon levels.
We strongly encourage you to have your potential home tested. If we find the home has high concentrations of radon, there are ways to reduce it to acceptable levels.
Underground Sewer:
A properly installed underground sewer can provide a home with decades of reliable service but failure of this important system can cause you some very troublesome and costly repairs. The best way to examine this system is to have it “scoped” with a special sewer camera. We’ll then be able to determine if there are any issues with the pipe’s integrity, invasive tree roots, or sagging pipes that could be a problem.
Wood Destroying Organisms:
Termite inspections are required during a home sale in the State of Iowa so let Home IQ save you time by helping facilitate this inspection for you. We’ll coordinate the inspection with a local exterminator at the same time as the home inspection.

Why do I need a home inspection?
Buying a home is one of the most important investments you will ever make and a home inspection is an inexpensive way to discover the overall condition of the home. It is important to conduct a home inspection to avoid a costly mistake by purchasing a property in need of major repairs.
Hiring a Certified Home Inspector will help you learn a great deal about your potential home. A certified home inspector will look things over from top to bottom both inside and out. The findings will then be assembled in a detailed yet easy to understand home inspection report. Upon reviewing the report with your certified inspector, you’ll be able to evaluate whether there are any potential deal-breakers, such as a serious structural defect. If no deal breakers are found, you’ll then want to determine if there are major issues that should be negotiated with the seller prior to closing. Finally, you’ll be able to identify any minor repairs needed that you choose to handle yourself to avoid “nitpicking” the seller. This knowledge will also help you prepare and plan for any upcoming repairs that you were previously unaware of.
